collenchyma here is located in a columnar mass that appears round in transverse
section. This collenchyma does not extend to the epidermis itself, but instead
stops about one cell layer interior to the hypodermis (the larger cells just
interior to the epidermis). Also, this bundle of collenchyma is aligned with a
vascular bundle (near the bottom of the micrograph). The collenchyma cells are
shown in higher magnification in Fig. 4.1-6.
