these glands of sweet olive also are stalked trichomes that emerge from the
epidermis. But
notice that the epidermis sinks into the leaf just as far as the gland emerges
out – the glandular head of the secretory structure is level with
the rest of the epidermis. Looking at the leaf surface with a dissecting
microscope, it would be easy to not even notice the glands at all.
